Arts and Crafts Lighting Built the Original Way

The Arts and Crafts movement rejected mass-produced Victorian excess in favor of honest materials — hammered copper, quarter-sawn oak, real mica, and stained slag glass. Our collection carries that lineage forward with sconces, pendants, table lamps, and pier-mount lanterns built the same way today's Craftsman-home owners want them.

Every fixture uses solid brass or hand-hammered copper frames, natural amber mica or slag-glass shades, and hand-finished antique-bronze or oil-rubbed patinas. No plastic panels, no plated-over-pot-metal shortcuts. The result is lighting that looks era-correct in a 1908 Craftsman bungalow, a Prairie-School four-square, or a modern farmhouse borrowing the aesthetic.

All fixtures are UL-listed for damp or dry locations, accept standard E26 medium-base bulbs, and ship free within the continental US with a 2-year warranty.

    Buying Guide

How to Choose Arts & Crafts Lighting

Start with the shade material. Amber mica gives the warmest, most authentic Craftsman glow — the same golden light you see in restored Stickley bungalows. Slag glass (art glass panels bonded with lead came) produces a more colorful, jewel-like effect and is common on Prairie-School and mid-Craftsman lanterns. Frosted or clear glass is a modern compromise that pairs well with rooms that mix Craftsman with contemporary.

For sizing, match sconces at 60–66 inches above the floor. Table lamps for reading should sit at eye level when seated — typically a 24–28 inch overall height. Pendants over dining tables hang 30–34 inches above the tabletop, same as any other pendant. Choose 2700K warm-white LEDs to preserve the amber cast of the mica or slag glass.

    Pro Tip
Pro tip: The classic Arts and Crafts palette leans warm — antique copper, oil-rubbed bronze, aged brass. Avoid chrome, polished nickel, or brushed steel finishes; they read modern and clash with the honest-material philosophy of the era. If your room already has quarter-sawn oak or hammered-copper accents, choose lighting in the same finish family to keep the palette coherent.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is your mica real natural mica or synthetic?
All mica shades in this collection are real, hand-cut natural amber mica sheets bonded to a bronze or copper frame. Never plastic or synthetic.
    What is slag glass?
Slag glass is opaque, marbled art glass that was popular in Arts & Crafts and Prairie School fixtures. It's created by mixing colored glass during casting to produce natural streaks and swirls.
Do these fixtures work in a modern home, not just a Craftsman?
Yes. Craftsman lighting has become popular in modern farmhouse and transitional interiors because of its honest materials and warm glow. It pairs well with wood, leather, and matte finishes.
Are Arts & Crafts sconces suitable for bathrooms?
Choose fixtures marked damp-location rated for bathrooms. Product pages specify the UL rating. Most of our sconces qualify for use outside the shower splash zone.
    What bulbs do you recommend?
2700K warm-white LED bulbs preserve the golden cast of mica and slag glass. Vintage-style Edison LEDs also work well for a more amber tone.
    Are these UL listed?
Yes. Every fixture in this collection is UL listed for either dry or damp locations, and specifies which on the product page.
